“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name.” (Jn 15, 18. 20-21)

This is the cost of discipleship, the call of Christ to come and die with me. Brothers and sisters, naalala ko po yung storya nung tatlong magigiting na Santo na kilala po natin; una si Fr. Damien, pangalawa si Mother Teresa of Calcutta at si Br. Richie Fernando

Fr. Damien or St. Damian of Molokai, eleven years po siyang nagging missionary Priest sa Molokai and doon he attended to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in the colony of lepers. Dahil sa pagmamahal niya doon sa mga lepers sa Molokai, he himself was contracted with leprosy at namatay siya dahil sa leprosy. Si Fr. Damian po or St. Damian, siya po ay kilala bilang isang “Martyr of Charity.”

Si Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a nun who devoted her life to serving the poor and destitute all around the world. She spent many years in Calcutta sa India, where she founded the Missionaries of Charity kung saan itong kongregasyong ito devoted their time sa pagtulong sa mga nangangailangan, lalung-lalo na yung mga mahihirap at maysakit. Sabi nga ni Mother Teresa, ang famous quotation niya na “love until it hurts and when it hurts add a little more.”

Si Br. Richie Fernando was a 26 years old Jesuit Seminarian brother from the Philippines and he was assigned as a missionary brother sa Cambodia, kung saan nagturo siya doon sa isang technical school and one day nung habang siya ay nagtuturo sa loob ng classroom, may nagtapon ng Granada sa loob ng kanyang pinagtuturuan na classroom, kung saan nandoon ang kanyang gma estudyante at siya bilang isang guro, to save the life of his students sa pagsabog ng Granada, ang ginawa niya niyakap niya yung granada to save the life of his students.

Brothers and sisters, the lives of these 3 Saints na nabanggit ko po, they defined the cost of discipleship. They were full followers of Christ, they become full for the love of Christ. Dahil sa matinding pagmamahal nila sa Diyos, ibinigay nila ang lahat-lahat.

Brothers and Sisters, sa standard ng mundo minsan hindi acceptable yung ganoong pag-aalay ng buhay. Sa standard ng mundo minsan hindi katanggap-tanggap but in the eyes of God brothers and sisters, kung paano nila ibinigay ang kanilang buhay, kung paano nila ibinigay ang buong sarili nila, buong pagmamahal nila, it is most perfect and pleasing to God, most pleasing and acceptable sa mata ng Diyos.

Hindi ba’t pag tayo ay in love, we go crazy and we do foolish things. Pag tayo ay in love, binibigay natin yung oras natin, ibinibigay natin yung sarili natin, ibinibigay natin kung ano yung kaya natin ibigay pag tayo ay in love. Kaya sa Social media may sumikat na actor dahil sa kanyang pagmamahal niya sa kompanya, pagmamahal niya sa kanyang trabaho, naghamon ng suntukan o di kaya yung isang babae na nag-viral sa Social media na sabi nila dahil wala siyang facemask, siya ay hinarang ng mga pulis bitbit yung bag na hawak-hawak niya sa kanyang kamay. Sabi nila ang laman daw noon ay mga damit niya dahil masyado na siyang excited na makita ang kanyang bofriend, viniolate niya yung quarantine, yung protocol ng ECQ. Pag tayo ay nagmamahal sa pamilya natin, alam natin may mga iba gumagawa ng mali just to provide for their families, just to give something to sustain the needs of their families. Pag tayo ay in love lalong-lao na sa pamilya natin, inlove tayo sa mga mahal natin sa buhay, we do foolish things, we do crazy things and we even do violence sa ating sarili.

Brothers and sisters, ano rin kaya ang kaya nating gawing foolishness and crazy things pag tayo ay na in love sa Diyos? What are the foolish things, the crazy things we can do para sa pagmamahal natin sa Diyos? Una, love of prayer. Do you still find time to pray when you are exhausted, pag ikaw ay worried, pag ikaw ay burned out, pag ikaw ay stressed nahahanap mo pa ba o nakakahanap ka pa ba ng oras magdasal, bakit kailangang magdasal? Alam niyo isa sa kinakatakutan ng demonyo ay ang isang madasaling tao. If the devil succeeds to tempt you to give up prayer, brothers and sisters, he succeeds to cut off yung relationship natin sa Panginoon, the source and meaning of our life. Without prayer, life has lost its purpose and meaning. Kaya nga sabi ni Henry Nouwen “words become useless when they are not born out of silence. Life is meaningless when it is not born out of prayerful silence.” Kaya nga napakahalaga sa buhay natin ang pagdarasal, you make it a habit to pray. As we grow in prayer, let us grow deeply in our relationship with God. Si St. Vincent Ferrer, he loved to proclaim the all-powerfulness of the Holy Rosary, kaya nga sabi niya “however observe this practice is beyond adversity, is beyond problems” dahil siya mismo noong siya ay nagkaproblema, siya ay cinapture ng mga brigands, he prayed and he was saved. kailangan nating magdasal laong-lao na sa panahong ngayon, love of prayer.

Pangalawa, love of service. sabi ni Pope Benedict sa kanyang Encyclical letter Deus Caritas Est “faith without action is dead.” At mas pinalalim pa ito ni Pope Francis nung sinabi niya, “when you feed the hungry, feed them. That is how prayer works.” And this is the challenge for all of us brothers and sisters, pag pinagdadasal natin yung mga taong nangangailangan, let us feed them, let us help them, let us console them sa kanilang paghihirap. Kaya nga itong pandemic na ito dahil sa sitwasyon natin ngayon, there is so much solidarity of resources. Rich and poor coming together, mga mayayaman, mga may-kaya they opened their inns, their holtels para sa mga frontliners. Dahil sa mga taong ito na ibinibigay ang kanilang sarili, binibigay nila ang kanilang mga treasures and time sa pagtulong nararamdaman natin si Hesus na buhay na buhay despite this pandemic. At ang dasal natin brothers and sisters is to have a heart to love and a hand to serve. Love of service.

At Pangatlo at panghuli, love of silence. Napakaingay na po ng ating mundo, hindi na natin alam minsan kung sino ang papakinggan, ano ang papakinggan natin. What is the point of silence? Ano bang point ng silence? Brothers and sisters, God speaks in the silence of our hearts. The Lord hears the language of silence, iyun ang naintindihan na language ng Panginoon, the language of silence. Pwede naman tayong maging silent externally pero ang tinatanong ang napakahalagang silence ay yung silence ng ating puso. Pwedeng externallyh tayo ay silent pero internally punong-puno tayo ng galit, punong-puno tayo ng pride, punong-puno tayo ng hinanakit sa ating puso at ito ang dasal natin brothers and sisters na magkaroon tayo ng katahimikan sa ating puso, nang sa gayon mas marinig natin ang boses ng Diyos, mas marinig natin kung ano ang kalooban ng Diyos para sa atin. God speaks in the silence of our hearts.

We can be fool for our love for Jesus, we can do crazy things sa pagsunod natin sa Diyos and this three things na pwede nating gawin to discipline ourselves as we feel, as we accept the grace of God sa buhay natin, mas maramdaman natin ang presensya ng Diyos. Love of prayer, love of service and love of silence.

Brothers and Sisters, when Jesus died, he died a violent death but it was a wonderful death of love. And so, let us pray for one another in these trying times and let us continue to be full sa pagmamahal natin sa Diyos, sa pagsunod natin sa Diyos at sigurado ako sa pagtahak natin, sa pagsunod natin sa Diyos hindi niya tayo pababayaan dahil mahal tayo ng Diyos. Amen.
